It’s obviously a flaw that the Marlins would love to see rectified before they let him face the Johan Santana’s and Cliff Lee’s of the NL East. From the looks of Stanton’s rates, it seems as if he’s an all-or-nothing hitter. He had 62 walks all season (12.3 percent), which would place him in the middle of the major league ranks. While that may not seem too bad, we should all realize the majority of Stanton’s walks have to be because opponents pitch away from him.The run-producing ability he has certainly is well-above average, and I’m sure opposing teams would rather walk Stanton in order to get to someone easier in the order. If Stanton doesn’t begin to show some patience, major league pitchers will feast on his anxiousness.Even with those holes, Stanton has the makings of a legitimate major league power hitter. A slight drop off in the majors could be possible, but I wouldn’t expect a lot because he’s able to convert such a high rate of his flyballs into home runs.Luke Scott and Adam LaRoche had the same FB as Stanton, but I’d venture a guess that Stanton will be a much better home run hitter than they are.Even though the right-fielder played at only Double-A last season, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see the Marlins give him a shot in spring training next season. After all, Stanton’s current position is manned by Jeremy Hermida, whom the Marlins have been waiting to breakout for years now (his 13 HR and 47 RBI shouldn’t be much of a threat if Stanton lights it up in the AFL and spring training). If the Marlins are able to move Dan Uggla, there might even be more room in the outfield as Chris Coghlan would likely shift to second base.As if I haven’t preached Stanton’s upside enough, MLB compares Stanton’s game to Dave Winfield. OU had been getting the top recruits at QB when he was ready to go to college.
His prospects of playing more than one-year as a starter at OU were bleak at best. There were at least 50 schools were he could have gone to and had a great chance to be a four-year starter. He didn't, he followed his heart to the University of Oklahoma and it paid huge dividends when Bomar was kicked from the team and it paved the way for him to start as a redshirt freshman. Bradford is special because he has followed his heart and he should not let money change that now.Once, he starts doing what is expected of him, he becomes less of a leader, less of a superstar and has less of a future.Really, Bradford is already a millionaire, whether it is through the draft, through insurance or through the jobs and business opportunities that his celebrity will bring him in life.Yes, he gets the most millions by going to the draft. When you start talking about how much more or less of a millionaire someone is going to be, are we not splitting hairs at that pointBradford is better than the status quo, Bradford is a leader, Bradford followed his heart last year when we decided to stay and not take the money.Following his heart is what makes him so special, Sometimes it works out like when he followed it to Oklahoma. Sometimes it doesn't like when he got hurt twice this year. Either way, the second he stops following what his heart tells him to do. He becomes less of a man and less of a leader because most of us do not have the guts to do what are heart tells us to in everyday normal situations. But Bradford is special because he was able to follow his heart despite being pressured by millions of dollars to do something else.We should all try to be more Bradford-like and have the strength to follow our hearts even though the stakes of our decisions are so much smaller.Plenty of College athletes follow their heart to go to the NFL early because playing in the NFL was their childhood dreams. Others dream of leading their favorite colleges to a national championship. So, Sam, whatever you decide, stay true to your heart, It has made you who you are today and that is no little feat.Include a link to , if you copy this article to another site.. ) The Connecticut Huskies are getting ready to take on West Virginia in Morgantown, after the toughest week of many of these players and coaches careers.
